Terms of use
Short, and in plain English. Using CarFeeCalc means accepting these terms; if you do not accept them, please do not use the site.

1. What this site is
CarFeeCalc is a free, independent reference tool that estimates vehicle sales tax, registration, title and plate fees in US states, based on published fee schedules and the details you enter. It is operated by Arthur Patch. It is not a government service and has no affiliation with any motor vehicle agency — see the disclaimer, which forms part of these terms.
2. No account, no payment, no obligation
There is nothing to sign up for and nothing to pay. The site can be changed, restricted or withdrawn at any time without notice, and no guarantee is given that it will remain available or that any particular state will continue to be published.
3. Estimates are not quotes
Every figure produced here is an estimate. It does not bind anyone, is not an offer, and the amount a dealer or motor vehicle office actually charges may differ. Do not treat an estimate as a commitment by anyone to charge that amount, and do not rely on it as the sole basis for a financial decision. The reasons a real bill can differ are set out in the disclaimer.
4. Not professional advice
Nothing on this site is legal, tax, accounting or financial advice, and using it creates no professional relationship of any kind. Where a decision matters, confirm the figures with your state agency or a qualified professional.
5. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- use the site in a way that damages it, degrades it for others, or attempts to interfere with its operation or security;
- attempt to gain unauthorised access to any part of the site or its hosting infrastructure;
- republish the fee data as if it were your own, or present it in a way that implies this site endorses you or your product;
- use the site in breach of any applicable law.
Reading, quoting with attribution, linking to any page, and using the calculators as much as you like are all expressly fine. Automated access is fine if it is reasonable — see robots.txt and llms.txt, which set out what crawlers and language models are welcome to do.
6. Intellectual property
The underlying facts — statutory rates, published fee amounts — are not owned by anyone and cannot be. The way they are presented here is: the text, the calculation engine, the comparisons, the design and the research that established which figure applies are the work of Arthur Patch and are protected by copyright.
You may quote short passages and cite figures with a link back to the page they came from. You may not copy substantial parts of the site, scrape the fee data to build a competing product, or reproduce whole pages. Agency names and marks referred to on this site remain the property of their owners and appear only to identify the source of a figure.
7. Third-party links
Pages link out to state agencies, revenue departments and statute texts. Those sites are not under this site's control, and no responsibility is taken for their content or availability. A link is a citation, not an endorsement.
8. Warranties and liability
The site is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranty of accuracy, fitness for a particular purpose, or uninterrupted availability.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, no liability is accepted for any loss or damage — direct, indirect, incidental or consequential — arising from use of, or reliance on, this site. Nothing in these terms excludes any liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.
9. Privacy
Nothing you type into a calculator leaves your device — the maths runs in your browser and no vehicle price, ZIP code or result is sent anywhere. The site itself sets no analytics cookies. Its advertising partners do set cookies; what they store, and how to switch personalised advertising off, is on the privacy page, which also forms part of these terms.
10. Advertising and affiliate links
This site carries third-party advertising and some outbound affiliate links, disclosed in the advertising and affiliate disclosure. Adverts are supplied by third parties and their content is not reviewed, endorsed or controlled by CarFeeCalc. Any dealing you have with an advertiser or an affiliate merchant — including a purchase, an application, or a dispute about either — is between you and that third party, and no liability is accepted for it.
You must not interfere with, obscure, automate clicks on, or artificially inflate impressions of any advertising on this site.
11. Changes to these terms
These terms may be updated. The date at the top of this page always shows when they last changed, and substantive changes are recorded in the changelog. Continuing to use the site after a change means accepting the updated terms.
12. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute is subject to the state and federal courts sitting in Erie County, New York. Where the consumer law of your own country or state gives you rights that cannot be contracted out of, those rights are unaffected.
13. Contact
Questions about these terms, or anything else: hello@carfeecalc.com. Corrections to a figure are handled under the editorial policy.
